The offline replication of snapshots for the Dell PowerStore array, also called the Dell PowerStore snapshot replication feature, creates a replica copy of the primary snapshot of the local array on a remote array.
When you perform a snapshot backup operation, the software creates a snapshot on the local array. To replicate the snapshot to the remote array, perform an auxiliary copy operation.
Key features
-
Primary copy and replica copy can have separate retention policies.
-
You can use the snapshots of the replica copy for the backup copy operation and for the restore operation.
Limitations
-
The revert operation on the replica copy is not supported.
-
If the snapshot backup operation fails or gets killed after the creation of the snapshot, this might result in orphan snapshots on the remote array that you need to manually delete.
-
Multiple remote arrays are not supported from the same subclient.
-
Volume Group replication is not supported.
Terminology
The terms remote array and replication partner mean the same.
