Performing an HBase Incremental Backup Operation

You can perform an incremental backup operation of the HBase data.

Before You Begin

  • Initialize Hadoop YARN with the necessary permissions to run incremental backup operations.

  • For Hortonworks distributions, verify that the appropriate HDP (Hortonworks Data Platform) version is set in the MapReduce configuration.

  • Verify that MapReduce jobs are allowed for a proxy user.

  • To retain the log files for longer times, set the hbase.master.logcleaner.ttl property in the hbase-site.xml configuration file to a high value. Commvault recommends setting the property value to 7 days (604800000 millisecond).

  • If the CompleteBulkLoad utility was used to load data, then run a full backup operation followed by scheduled incremental backups. For more information, go to CompleteBulkLoad on the Apache HBase website.

  • Verify that the YARN ResourceManager service is running because HBase incremental backups use the WAL player.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > Big Data Apps > instance > backup_set.

  2. Right-click the subclient, and then click Backup.

The Backup Options dialog box appears.

  3. In the Backup Type section, select Incremental.

  4. In the Job Initiation section, specify whether to run the backup now or to schedule it.
