During backups, if a client shows high CPU usage, check the following:
-
Software compression settings and signature generation on the subclient
-
Number of streams configured
Higher number of streams leads to greater CPU utilization.
-
Software compression settings on the storage policy copy
By default, data is transferred according to compression settings defined by the storage policy copy.
You can reduce the CPU usage on the client computer by compressing the data on the MediaAgent. For more information, see Modifying Software Compression on a Subclient or Instance.
If you do not want to modify the compression settings, you can set sSDTHeadMaxCPUUsage or NClientGrpMaxCPUPercent additional setting on the client computer to allocate certain amount of CPU usage for backups. For instructions on creating additional setting, see Adding or Modifying Additional Settings from the CommCell Console.
