Restoring Documents to a Different Folder on the Same Client

You can restore documents, sites, libraries, and lists to a different path on the same client from where they were backed up.

About This Task

Always browse and restore a document, a sub site, a library, or a list one level higher in the destination. Else, the restore operation might fail.

For example,

  • Restore a document or a list item to a document library or a list where they need to be restored to.

  • Restore a complete document library, a list or a sub site to the root (/) of their current site collection.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > SharePoint Server > Documents.

  2. Right-click the subclient, and then click Browse and Restore.

The Browse and Restore Options dialog box appears.

  3. Click View Content.

  4. Select the items that you want to restore, and then click Recover All Selected.

The Restore Options for All Selected Items dialog box appears.

  5. Clear the Restore to same folder check box.

  6. In the Specify destination path box, enter or browse the location where you want to restore the documents.

  7. Optional: If a document selected for restore already exists at the destination, by default, that document is skipped to restore during the restore operation.

To stop skipping such a document, from the Restore Options for All Selected Items dialog box, select any one of the following option:

    • To overwrite the existing document at the destination with the document that is getting restored, select Unconditional Overwrite.

    • To merge an existing version of a library or list level in a version library, select Merge.

For example: If there are three versions of a document and version two is deleted. During a restore operation, if you select Merge, and then select version two, the deleted version is merged back as version two in the version sequence.

    • To add a new version of the document in a version library, select Append.

For example: If there are three versions of a document and version two is deleted. During a restore operation, if you select Append, and then select version two, the deleted version is appended as version four at the end of the version sequence.

  8. Click OK.
