Restoring an Exchange Database as Files to a Non-Exchange Location

Applies to: Exchange 2007 or later, and IntelliSnap

In addition to restoring an Exchange database out of place to an Exchange location, you can restore an Exchange database as a file system out of place to a non-Exchange location. However, if you restore to a non-Exchange location, you cannot replay the transaction logs.

Procedure

  1. Install the Exchange package and add the Exchange Database Agent on a non-Exchange server.

    Important

The Exchange Version in the agent's Properties dialog box must be the same version as the Exchange database that you want to restore.

  2. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client.

  3. Right-click Exchange Database, and then click All Tasks > Browse and Restore.

The Browse and Restore Options dialog box appears.

  4. Click View Content.

  5. In the left pane of the Client Browse window, expand Exchange Database > Microsoft Information Store > database.

  6. In the right pane, select the database that you want to restore, and then click Recover Databases.

The Restore Options for All Selected Items dialog box appears.

  7. From the Destination client list, select the non-Exchange server that has the Restore-Only agent installed on it.

  8. In the Restore Options area, select Out of place restore to file location, and then select the Without recovery.

  9. In the list at the bottom of the dialog box, in the Destination DB/Out of Place Location column, click ...

The Client Browse dialog box appears.

  10. Select the destination path where you want to restore the database as a file, and then click OK.

  11. Click OK.
