To perform indexing operations for the Exchange Mailbox Agent, set up an Index Server.
Consider the following important information before you set up your index server:

The maximum number of archived messages per index server, without content indexing, is 2 billion.

Configure the index server and the index cache on a different drive than the one where the operating system is installed.

If you enable preview generation in the archiving policy or the journal policy, the generated files can be stored on any network share. It does not need to be on the index server.
Procedure

Follow the instructions for getting started with an Index Server, but when you add the Index Server to your CommCell environment, assign the Exchange Index role to the Index Server.
