Synchronizing and Performing Backups With the Dell EMC Isilon's Changelist Feature

Changelist is a feature of Isilon that is used to track the changes between two points at a time.

When you have a large number of files and the number of files that are modified is minimum, the incremental backup operation takes a large amount of time as all the files are scanned for changes.

Commvault software creates snapshots whenever you run a backup operation. When you run incremental backups, the Changelist feature is used to identify the changes between snapshots which results in faster backups especially when you have a large number of files.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > Linux File System or Windows File System.

  2. Right-click the subclient, and then click Backup.

    The Backup Options dialog box appears.

  3. In the Select Backup Type area, select the type of backup that you want to perform:

    • To perform a full backup, select Full.

    • To perform an incremental backup, select Incremental.

    • To perform a synthetic full backup, select Synthetic Full.

  4. In the Job initiation area, specify whether to run the backup job immediately or to schedule it.

  5. Optional: To set advanced backup options, click Advanced.

  6. Click OK.
