Types of Storage Policies

The types of storage policies are standard, incremental, and disaster recovery backup.

Standard Storage Policies

Standard storage policies are used for the following operations:

  • Backup operations, restore operations: All the subclients associated with any agent will use a standard storage policy to perform backup and restore operations.

The standard storage policy can be used for full backups, incremental backups, and differential backups.

  • Archiving, recover: All the subclients associated with any data archiver will use a standard storage policy to perform archiving and recovery/retrieval of archived data.

Incremental Storage Policies

Incremental storage policies are used for the following operations:

  • Incremental backup operations

  • Differential backup operations

All the subclients associated with any agent can use an incremental storage policy to perform incremental and differential backups.

Disaster Recovery Backup Storage Policies

Disaster Recovery Backup Storage Policies are used for the following operations:

  • Disaster recovery backup operations

  • CommServe disaster recovery operations

The software stores all information for the CommCell in a SQL database, and in the Windows registries. It is critical to be able to retrieve this information in the case of a disaster or system failure. This metadata and Windows registry data are backed up during a disaster recovery backup.
