Using a UNC Path as a Mount Path

If you want to use a path to a remote Windows computer as a mount path, the mount path must be added using the UNC (Universal Naming Convention) format as follows:

\\<computer name>\<shared directory name>\<optional path>

Note

Do not use name 'Commvault' as the <optional path>. For example, \\<computer name>\<shared directory name>\commvault.

Consider the following while adding a UNC path as the mount path:

  • If the mount path resides in a different domain than the MediaAgent accessing it, a domain trust relationship is recommended. Commvault uses impersonation with the domain user account specified during mount path configuration to access the mount path.

  • Before adding the UNC path, verify and ensure that the UNC path is accessible from another computer using the domain account that will be used to access the mount path. (If the mount path and the MediaAgent are on different domains, make sure to perform this test across domains.)

  • The user account used to access the mount path must have read / write permissions to the software install folder on the MediaAgent accessing the mount path. The MediaAgent uses these folders to add log entries for jobs associated with the mount path.

  • The user account used to access the mounth path must have read/ write / modify / delete permissions on the UNC path.

  • The mount path for a disk library in a clustered environment should be a UNC path or the shared disk on a cluster.
