Feature releases can be manually installed on the standby CommServe host when the installation process fails.
Before You Begin
Install the feature release on the Production CommServe host. For more information on installing feature releases on the production CommServe hosts, see Installing a Feature Release on the Production CommServe During a Maintenance Failover.
Note: For new CommServe server installations in Feature Release 11.25 and later, the remote cache for the standby CommServe server is created and enabled automatically, and triggering a download software job on the production CommServe server will automatically synchronize it with the remote cache. Therefore, you can skip Step 1 and Step 2, below.
From the CommCell Console ribbon, on the Tools tab, click Add/Remove Software > Software Cache Configuration.
Click the Remote Software Cache tab and then click Add.
From the Computer list, select the client in which the SQL client is installed.
Tip: Note down the path to the Cache directory. This will be needed when you install the service pack on the standby CommServe host.
Click the Configure Packages to Sync button.
Enable Sync Packages and choose the All Packages option.
Click OK twice to save the configuration.
From the CommCell Console ribbon, on the Tools tab, click Add/Remove Software > Download Software.
Choose one of the following options:
Mainstream Feature Release option to download the feature release that has been available in the FTP site since 30 days.
Maintenance Release option to download only the latest maintenance releases available for the feature release version is installed on the CommServe computer.
Feature Release and Maintenance Release options to download a specific feature release.
Recommended: Choose the default Mainstream Feature Release option, unless you have a specific reason to use one of the other options.
From the Options tab and click Sync from the Job Type area.
This will synchronize the remote cache.
You can monitor the progress of the operation from the Job Controller.
Note: This operation may take some time, depending on the network bandwidth available in your environment.
Login to the standby CommServe host.
From the command prompt, navigate to the following folder:
<Remote_Cache_Directory>\SoftwareCache\CVMedia\<Commvault version>\<Media Version>\Windows\
By default <Remote_Cache_Directory> is located in the following path:
Tip: This is the remote cache directory in the SQL client, which was setup while creating a remote cache directory on the standby CommServe host.
Run Setup.exe from the installation package.
Follow the instructions in the installation wizard and complete the installation. The program automatically detects the standby CommServe host and performs a binary-only update installation.
Alternatively, you can install the feature release from the command line as follows:
Setup.exe -donotpatchdb -nostartsvc
From the CommCell Console ribbon, on the Tools tab, click Add/Remove Software > Upgrade Software.
The Upgrade Software dialog box is displayed.
Expand Client Computers and then select the <SQL clients> from both the production and standby CommServe hosts from the list.
An Install Updates job will be started. You can monitor the progress of the job from the Job Controller window.
