Replication Fails with Error "Storage policy <name> is already attached to vm [name] disk [id] and it does not have the required capability [cvblrh@REPLICATION]" (VMware Live Sync I/O)

Updated

On this page

Replication can fail when a vSphere storage policy is attached to virtual machine disks.

Symptom

If a virtual machine is configured for continuous replication, and some of the virtual machine disks have vSphere storage policies attached, replication fails and the following message appears in the blrsvc.log file:

Storage policy <name> is already attached to vm [name] disk [id] and it does not have the required capability [cvblrh@REPLICATION]

Cause

If a virtual machine disk already has a vSphere storage policy attached, the continuous replication operation cannot attach the BLRH storage policy on the source VM disk or the BLRT storage policy on the destination VM disk.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, perform the following steps:

  1. Remove the source VM from the replication group that is configured to use continuous replication.

  2. For each disk, ensure that the VM storage policy in vSphere is set to Datastore Default.

  3. Add the source VM to the replication group.
