Assign protected virtual machines to the appropriate user or user group.
You cannot assign VM owners or permissions automatically. An administrator must perform this action for each VM after an initial successful backup.
In a fully managed deployment, the MSP administrator performs this configuration for each tenant company.
Note: When new VMs are added, or when a new VM is created by restoring the VM from backup, you must perform a new backup for the VM and then assign a VM owner.
Before You Begin
Perform backups for virtual machines.
Create user definitions for each user who owns or manages a VM.
Create a user group for each class of user, and then assign users to the group.
For example, you can create a Tenant Admins user group and assign all users who should have admin permissions.
Perform the following steps from the Command Center:
Log on to the Command Center.
For a fully managed deployment, use the MSP administrator credentials, and then select the company from the list in the upper-right area of the page.
In the navigation pane, click Dashboard.
The Overview Dashboard appears.
The Virtual machines page appears.
To assign a user and role, click a virtual machine.
The virtual machine properties page appears.
On the Configuration tab, in the Security tile, click Edit.
On the Associations tab, enter a user name or user group name for tenants, select the role you created for VM owners, and then click Add.
Caution: Do not use the Owners tab to assign permissions. Permissions that are assigned on the Owners tab enable users to configure or perform operations on virtual infrastructure servers.
