Adding a DB2 Database Server


To protect DB2 databases on a database server, add the server to the Command Center.


  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Databases.

    The Instances page appears.

  2. Click Add server, and select DB2 for the database type.

    The Add DB2 server dialog box appears.

  3. To select the OS Type, click Windows or Unix and Linux.

  4. In the Database server name box, type the server name or the IP address of the server.

  5. In the Username and Password boxes, type the credentials that you use to connect to the server.

    For a Windows server, enter the Username as domain_name\username.

  6. From the Plan list, select the plan to use for the instances and databases.

    The plan specifies how often the software backs up the instances and databases.

  7. To grant write access to a UNIX group, such as the dba group, in the UNIX group box, type the name of the group that has write permissions.

  8. To define the location where the DB2 log directories are located, in the DB2 logs path box, enter the full path to the directory.

    Separate directories under this path are used for each of the following DB2 log types: archive logs, audit error logs, and retrieve logs. If the directories do not exist, they are created.

  9. To define the location where the Commvault software is installed, in the Installation location box, enter the full path to the directory.

    If you don't enter a path, the software is installed in /opt/Commvault.

  10. Click Save.


  • The appropriate Commvault software packages are installed on the server.

  • DB2 instances that are available on the added server are discovered automatically.

  • In the CommCell Console, by default, the Enable Database Discovery check box is selected at DB2 agent level.
