Export a Mailbox Item to PST or CAB

Updated

On this page

If you do not have access to the Exchange infrastructure, you can export the emails to a PST file or to a CAB file in EML or MSG format.

By default, export sets have a retention period of 30 days, after which they are automatically pruned and the data in the export set is no longer available.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Office 365.

The Office 365 apps page appears.

  2. In the App name column, click the app that contains the item that you want to export.

    The app page appears.

  3. On the Mailboxes tab, select the mailbox that contains the item that you want to export, click Restore, and then click Restore messages.

    The mailbox contents appear.

  4. Select the item that you want to export.

  5. Click Export selected items to, and then click PST or CAB.

    The Export dialog box appears.

  6. In the Name box, type the name of the file that you are exporting.

  7. Click Submit.

  8. To view the exported mailbox, on the app page, click View exports.

The View exports dialog box appears with the exported file.

You must import the PST file into Outlook to view the contents of Contacts, Calendars, and Notes inside Outlook. These items are not visible if you just open the PST file from Outlook.
