You can restore a Microsoft Teams private channel and its posts, files, and wikis to the same channel. First, you restore the private channel and its posts. Then, you restore the files and the wikis.
Restore the Private Channel
Procedure
From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Applications > Office 365.
The Office 365 apps page appears.
In the Name column, click the app that contains the team that you want to restore.
The app page appears.
On the Teams tab, select the check box for the team that contains the items that you want to restore, click the Restore button, and then select Restore items.
The team restore page appears.
Select the private channel to restore, click the action button
, and then click Restore.
The Restore options dialog box appears.
Under File options, specify whether to overwrite existing files with the restore files.
Under Post options, specify where to restore the post:
To restore the post back to the place from where it was backed up, select Back to Posts tab.
To restore the post as an HTML file, select As HTML file under Files tab.
The HTML file is restored in a folder with the naming convention <RestorePosts_date_restore job ID>.
Click Submit.
Results
The private channel and the posts are restored, but the files and the wikis are not restored.
Manually Click the Wiki Tab and File Tab in the Teams App
If the Wiki tab is not present in Teams, in order for the wikis to be restored, you must create the tab.
In the Teams app, go to the restored private channel.
Depending on the case whether Wiki tab exists or not, complete one of the following tasks:
If the Wiki tab does not exist, create it.
If the Wiki tab already exists, click on the Wiki tab and the File tab.
Restore the Files and the Wikis
Procedure
From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Applications > Office 365.
The Office 365 apps page appears.
In the Name column, click the app that contains the team that you want to restore.
The app page appears.
On the Teams tab, select the check box for the team that contains the items that you want to restore, click the Restore button, and then select Restore items.
The team restore page appears.
In the Name column, click the name of the channel that contains the items that you want to restore.
The items that you can restore appear.
Select the Files and Wiki check boxes, and then click Restore.
The Restore options dialog box appears.
Under Microsoft Teams, click Restore the data to another location.
Specify the team to restore the data to:
For Destination team, specify the team that contains the private channel.
For Destination channel or tab, specify the private channel.
Under File options, specify whether to overwrite existing files with the restore files.
Under Post options, specify where to restore the post:
To restore the post back to the place from where it was backed up, select Back to Posts tab.
To restore the post as an HTML file, select As HTML file under Files tab.
The HTML file is restored in a folder with the naming convention <RestorePosts_date_restore job ID>.
Click Submit.
Results
The files and wikis are restored to the private channel.
