Peak Capacity Usage is the maximum amount of capacity consumed by the CommCell in a single month, based on the application size of backup and archive jobs. Current Capacity Usage is the latest amount of capacity consumed by the CommCell, based on the application size of the latest full backup and archive jobs.
How do I use Peak and Current Capacity Usage?
Use Peak Capacity Usage to determine the maximum amount of capacity consumed monthly. Peak Capacity Usage can help you determine whether you are approaching your capacity license limit.
Use Current Capacity Usage to determine the most current capacity usage after making any changes to your CommCell environment, such as when you delete a large amount of data or remove a client that backups up large amounts of data. Generally, Peak Capacity and Current Capacity Usages are similar. However, if you make any changes to your data, then a significant difference would appear between Peak Capacity Usage and Current Capacity Usage.
Example
A user sees that his Peak Capacity Usage is 900 TB, and he is licensed for 800 TB, so he wants to lower the amount of data used. To lower data use, he discontinues a NAS filer that contains 200 TB of data, and then removes the NAS filer from his backup operation. After the next report data collection, Current Capacity Usage shows how much capacity was saved by deleting the NAS filer.
In summary, Peak Capacity Usage notifies you of imminent capacity problems, and Current Capacity Usage helps you to confirm the solution to capacity problems.
