Restoring Mailboxes, Mailbox Items, Messages, or Public Folders Using Email Archiving App

Applies to: User Mailbox, Journal Mailbox

You can restore a mailbox, a mailbox item (such as a folder, a public folder, a contact, or a calendar entry), or a message using Exchange archiving.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Exchange.

    The Exchange page appears.

  2. Click the Exchange client that contains the mailbox that you want to restore.

    The Exchange client page appears.

  3. Follow the steps for what you want to restore:

Mailbox

  1. On the Mailboxes tab, select the mailboxes that you want to restore.

  2. Click Restore > Restore mailbox.

    The Restore options dialog box appears.

Messages

  1. On the Mailboxes tab, select the mailbox that has the messages that you want to restore.

  2. Click Restore, and then select Restore messages.

    The backup content page appears.

  3. Select the check box next to the mailbox items, messages, or public folders that you want to restore.

  4. Click Restore, and then click Items in current page.

    The Restore options dialog box appear.

Public folders

  1. On the Content tab, select the check boxes next to the public folders that you want to restore.

  2. In the upper-right corner, click the action button , and then click Restore.

    The backup content page appears.

  3. Select the check boxes next to the public folders that you want to restore.

  4. Click Restore.

    The Restore options dialog box appear.

  1. From the Restore destination list, select Exchange.

  2. Specify where to restore the data:

  • Select Restore the data to its original location.

Restore the data to another location

  1. Select Restore the data to another location.

  2. In the Mailbox box, specify the mailbox to restore the data to.

  3. In the Folder box, specify the folder to restore the data to.

  1. Under Message options, for If the message exists, specify whether to overwrite existing data:

    • To prevent an item that already exists from being overwritten, select Skip.

    • To overwrite any existing messages, select Unconditionally overwrite.

  2. To restore the data as a stub, under Advanced options, select the Restore as stubs check box.

  3. Click Submit.
