Periodic Replication Options for Azure Local

Updated

When you configure a replication group for an Azure Local destination, identify source VMs, and then provide Azure Local specific values for replication to the destination site.

Content Options

  • Name: Enter a descriptive name for the replication group, or change the name.

  • Source hypervisor: Under Microsoft Hyper-V, select the Azure Local hypervisor for the source VMs, and then, from the list of VMs, select the VMs to replicate.

When you edit an existing replication group, you cannot change this value.

Target Options

  • Recovery target: Select a previously defined Azure Local recovery target, or click Create new to create a new recovery target.

When you edit an existing replication group, you cannot change this value.

  • Frequency: (optional) Change the frequency of replication options.

The default frequency is four hours.

Advanced options

  • Validate destination VM (Power ON and OFF): Select this option to verify that the destination VM is bootable by powering it on and then powering off. Changes resulting from the power on are not preserved. If guest tools are not installed on the source VM, validation is skipped even when this option is selected.

If validation fails, the destination virtual machine reverts back to its last valid (bootable) state.

  • Unconditionally overwrite if VM already exists: To make the first replication operation replace an existing virtual machine with the same name in the target location, even if the destination VM is running, select this option.

Replication operations for incremental changes are not affected by this setting. Incremental replication changes are applied to the destination VM without overwriting the VM. If the destination VM is currently running, the replication fails.

Storage/Cache Options

  • Storage: Select the storage pool to use as a recovery store for virtual machine data to replicate to the destination site.

  • Replicate using secondary copy: To replicate a VM using a secondary copy, select this option.

    • Storage: Select the storage pool to use for secondary copies of virtual machine data to replicate to the destination site.

Override Options

  • Override replication options of virtual machines: To override settings for a specific VM, move the toggle switch to the right.

  • Replication configuration: Select a VM, and then click Override replication options.

You can only change options for one VM at a time.

On the Override replication options dialog box, you can enter the following information:

    • VM display name: Enter the display name for the destination VM.

You can only change this value when adding a new VM.

    • Register virtual machine with failover cluster: Select this option to register replicated virtual machines to the failover cluster for the destination client.

Virtual machines in a failover cluster can migrate to another Azure Local server.

To register virtual machines with the failover cluster, the user account for the virtualization client must be part of the Azure Local Administrators group.

For an Azure Local cluster, the user account must have full Cluster Permissions (Read and Full Control).

    • Network settings: Select a network interface from the Network adapter list.
