You can use the Commvault software to back up and restore Microsoft SharePoint Online.

Backups

Data You Can Back Up

  • Documents

  • Sites and subsites

  • Project Web App (PWA) sites

  • Libraries

  • Lists and list items

  • Pages, permissions, forms, versions, templates, settings, and views

  • Web parts and customizations

    • SharePoint Online Office 365 Group site files, which includes the document library

    • Wiki page library that contains the Team data

Note

You cannot back up apps from the SharePoint Store.

  • Forever incremental backups

When You Can Perform Backups

  • On a schedule: The server plan that you assign manages scheduled backups

  • On demand: You can perform on-demand backups at any time

Restores

Backups You Can Use for Restores

  • The most recent backup: For example, restore the most recent backup to its original location

  • A backup from a specific date: For example, restore data to a point in time before it became unusable

Destinations You Can Restore To

  • The current location (in place)

  • A different SharePoint site (out of place)

  • A disk

Region

Description

Default Global Region

The default global version of Dynamics 365 available for enterprises, where enterprise, business essentials, and academic Dynamics 365 tenants reside.

GCC Cloud Region

The U.S. federal, state, local, or tribal government, and contractors holding or processing data on behalf of the U.S. government.

GCC High Cloud Region

The United States Department of Defense, as well as contractors holding or processing DoD controlled unclassified information.

Authentication

You can use either basic or modern authentication to access data for backups and restores.

Retention

Data is retained according to the Office 365 plan that you assign to a site when you add it to the SharePoint Online app in Commvault. The default value for data retention is indefinite. You can modify that value to limit the amount of time that data is retained.
