Deployment Planning for Proxmox VE
Deployment for the Virtual Server Agent (VSA) for Proxmox VE can include the following components:
-
You must be running the Commvault Platform Release 2024E (11.36) CU40 maintenance release or a more recent version to protect your Proxmox VE VMs.
-
Install the Virtual Server Agent on the physical node of the Proxmox cluster so that it can serve as an access node. A VSA access node manages backup and restore operations for guest VMs in your environment, eliminating the need to install agents on guest VMs.
-
The Virtual Server Agent can be deployed on one or all Proxmox nodes of the cluster. If the VMs are hosted on a local storage, then you must install the VSA agent on all the nodes of the cluster. Multiple VSA access nodes enable load distribution and load balancing to improve the backup and restore performance.
-
You can deploy MediaAgents on physical machines or VMs to manage data transmission between clients and backup media.
System Requirements
For Proxmox VE support, the Virtual Server Agent must be installed on a node in the Proxmox VE cluster.
Verify that your environment meets the following requirements:
-
Proxmox VE version 8.2 or later.
-
Verify that at least 100 GB free disk space is available for installing the Virtual Server Agent.
-
A minimum of 4 GB RAM is required excluding the operating system and running applications.
