Vault Tracker

You can use the Vault Tracker to manage media that are removed from a tape storage target and stored in an offsite location. For more information about the Vault Tracker, see Vault Tracker Feature.

Enabling or Disabling a Vault Tracker Policy

You can enable or disable a Vault Tracker policy.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Storage > Tape.

    The Tape storage page appears.

  2. Click a tape_storage for which you want to modify the Vault Tracker policy.

    The tape_storage page appears.

  3. On the Media Details page, under the VaultTracker policies section, click the Vault_tracker_policy that you want to enable or disable.

    The Vault Tracker policy page appears.

  4. Under General, use the slider to enable or disable the policy.

Running a Vault Tracker Policy

You can run a Vault Tracker policy to move the media based on criteria that are defined for the policy.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Storage >Tape.

    The Tape page appears.

  2. Click a tape_storage for which you want to run the Vault Tracker policy.

    The tape_storage page appears.

  3. On the Media Details page, under the VaultTracker policies section, click the for the Vault Tracker policy that you want to run, in the Actions column, click the action button action_button, and then click Run now.

    A notification appears.

Receiving Notification About Changes to a Vault Tracker Policy

You can receive notifications about changes to a Vault Tracker policy. On enabling the notification, when the Vault Tracker policy is run, the software sends automatic notifications about all the pending actions that are associated with the media movement. If the source is a library, the software sends notifications about the pending actions when the media is removed from the library.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Storage > Tape.

    The Tape storage page appears.

  2. Click a tape_storage for which you want to modify the Vault Tracker policy.

    The tape_storage page appears.

  3. On the Media Details page, under the VaultTracker policies section, click the Vault_tracker_policy for which you you want to receive notifications.

    The Vault Tracker policy page appears.

  4. Under General, use the Auto acknowledge slider to enable or disable receiving the notification.

Modifying the Destination for Media in a Vault Tracker Policy

You can modify the transit location or the destination that media is exported to.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Storage > Tape.

    The Tape storage page appears.

  2. Click a tape_storage for which you want to modify the Vault Tracker policy.

    The tape_storage page appears.

  3. On the Media Details page, under the VaultTracker policies section, click the Vault_tracker_policy that you want to modify the transit location or the destination for.

    The Vault Tracker policy page appears.

  4. In Destination area, click Edit, modify the Transit location and/or Destination, and then save the changes.

Scheduling Media Export for a Vault Tracker Policy

For a Vault Tracker policy, you can add a schedule to export the media from a tape storage to a destination location.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Storage > Tape.

    The Tape storage page appears.

  2. Click a tape_storage for which you want to modify the Vault Tracker policy.

    The tape_storage page appears.

  3. On the Media Details page, under the VaultTracker policies section, click the Vault_tracker_policy that you want to enable or disable.

    The Vault Tracker policy page appears.

  4. Under Schedules, click Add schedule.

    The Add schedule dialog box appears.

  5. Enter the following information:

    • Name: Enter a name for the schedule.

    • Frequency: Specify how often you want to run the export.

    • Time (in CommServe time zone): Specify the time of day you want to run the export.

    • Days of week: From the list, select the days of the week that you want to run the export.

  6. Click Save.

Managing Pending Vault Tracker Actions

After you remove a tape from a tape storage using a media export operation, pending actions provide a record of what happens to the tape.

Pending actions are as follows:

  • Abort: Cancels the pending action.

  • Picked Up: Sets the media location as In Transit, when the source is a location. For a tape storage, this action is performed automatically when the media is removed from the source storage target.

  • Reached Destination: Indicates that the media reached its destination. The pending action is considered complete.

  • Details: Displays the detailed information about the media.

Managing Pending Vault Tracker Actions for a Tape Storage Target

You can manage the Vault Tracker actions that are pending for the tape storage.

Procedure
  1. From the navigation pane, go to Storage >Tape.

    The Tape page appears.

  2. Click a tape_storage for which you want to manage the pending Vault Tracker actions.

    The tape_storage page appears.

  3. On the Media Details page, the Media Details area, click VT actions.

    The VaultTracker Actions page displays the list of actions that are pending.

  4. Under the Actions column for a media, click the action button action_button, and then click the action that you want to perform.

Managing Pending Vault Tracker Actions for a Vault Tracker Policy

You can manage the Vault Tracker actions that are pending for a Vault Tracker policy.

Procedure
  1. From the navigation pane, go to Storage >Tape.

    The Tape page appears.

  2. Click a tape_storage for which you want to manage the pending Vault Tracker actions.

    The tape storage target page appears.

  3. Under VaultTracker Policies, click the Vault Tracker policy.

    The Vault Tracker policy page appears.

  4. In the upper-right corner of the page, click Actions, and then click Pending actions.

    The VaultTracker Actions page displays a list of actions that are pending.

  5. Under the Actions column for a media, click the action button action_button, and then click the action that you want to perform.
