Configuring a Disk Network Storage Pool

You can configure a Disk Network Storage Pool with global deduplication from the CommCell Console.

Optionally, you can configure the Disk Network Storage Pools from the command line. For more information, see Creating Disk Network Storage Pool Using Command Line.

About this Task

The configuration wizard automatically creates the following entities as soon as the storage pool is configured:

  • Creates a disk library

  • Creates a mount path

  • Creates a new Global Deduplication Policy

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand to Storage Resources > Storage Pools.

  2. Right-click Storage Pools, point to Add Storage Pool, and then click Disk.

    The Create New Storage Pool Wizard opens.

  3. In the Storage Pool Name box, enter the storage pool name, and then click Next.

  4. In the Configure storage dialog box,

    • From the Select list, click the available disk library with which the storage pool should be associated.

      or

    • To create a disk library using a local path,

      1. From the Create Local list, select a local MediaAgent.

        Note

        The list displays MediaAgents classified as Active (MediaAgents having license) and Inactive (MediaAgents having MediaAgent package installed, but license not consumed). The license is auto consumed if you select an inactive MediaAgent.

      2. In the Path option, enter the path of the location, or browse and select the location.

    • To create a disk library using a network path,

      1. Select Create Network. The Add Network Storage dialog box appears.

      2. Select a <MEDIAAGENET> from the list.

      3. From the Credential list, select an appropriate credential to access the backup location. To create a new credential, click the Create New button. For instructions about creating a credential, see Adding a Credential to Credential Manager.

      4. In the Folder box, specify the backup location folder, or browse and select the location.

  5. In the Enable deduplication on storage pool dialog box, select the number of partitions, and choose paths for MediaAgent and partition.

    Click Next.

  6. In the Advanced settings for the primary copy dialog box, select the Software Encryption option to enable encryption on copies including the primary copy.

    Select the cipher and key length, and then click Next.

  7. In the Review your selections dialog box, confirm the details and then click Finish.

    The new storage pool appears under the Storage Pools node.

Result

After the configuration the following entities will be available in the CommCell Console:

  • A Global Deduplication Policy (Disk Network Storage Pool) under the Storage Pools node.

  • The following entities will be created and displayed under the Global Deduplication Policy (Disk Network Storage Pool) node in the CommCell Console:

    • Deduplication Engines

    • Storage Policy Copy, DDB and partitions under the Deduplication Engines node

    • Disk Library under the Storage node with Library as the name suffix

      For example: storagepool-disk001Library

  • All the existing Global Deduplication Policies will appear as Storage Pools under the Storage Pools node.

What to Do Next

Load balancing among multiple libraries in a data path is not supported.

To use load balancing, we recommend that you create multiple mount paths in a library instead of creating multiple libraries in a data path.
