Configuring Live Browse By Using iSCSI LUNs

If metadata collection was disabled during backup, you can perform a live browse by mounting the iSCSI snapshot LUN on a proxy and recall the backed up extents on demand. This reduces workload on the browse MediaAgent by distributing live browse operation calls between multiple servers.

By default, the snapshot LUNs are mounted on the source client. You can select any other compatible client from the CommCell Console.

Before You Begin

The iSCSI server must be a Windows-based server, running Windows 8 or higher.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > File System > backup set.

  2. Right-click the appropriate subclient, and then click Browse and Restore.

The Browse and Restore Options dialog box appears.

  3. Click the Advanced Options tab.

  4. From the Use MediaAgent list, select the local MediaAgent.

  5. For block-level backups, complete the following steps:

    1. From the Use Proxy list, select the appropriate proxy client to mount the snapshot LUNs.

    2. From the Use iSCSi Server list, select the client computer that uses iSCSI initiator to mount snapshots.

  6. Click OK.
