Creating a New Content Indexing Policy for File System Agents

Content indexing policies determine the data that must be content indexed. You can enable content indexing for all or a subset of data.

The archiving subclients can be associated with content indexing policy from the subclient level as well as the policy level.

Before You Begin

• Verify if you have installed the required components specified in the Prerequisites page.

• This feature is not supported on the following subclients:

  • Block-level backups

  • OnePass

  • Reference Copy

  • Indexing Version 1

Procedure

1. From the CommCell Console, expand Policies > Configuration Policies.

2. Right-click File Policies, and then click New Content Indexing Policy.

   The Create New Content Indexing Policy appears.

3. On the General tab, do the following:

   1. In the Policy Name box, type name of the policy.

   2. In the Index Server box, select the index server to use for the content indexing operation.

      Note

      Once you select an index server and create a policy, you cannot edit the index server for the policy later. To use a different index server, you must create a new policy with that index server. For more information, see Hardware Specifications for Index Server.

4. On the Association tab, select the subclient whose data must be content indexed. You can also select the client group to filter clients based on specific groups.

   Notes

   • If a subclient is already associated with a different file policy, then that subclient is not listed under any other file policy. For more information, see Enabling Content Indexing Policy for File System Subclients.

   • The data access node that you select must have a minimum of Service Pack 15 installed.

5. On the File Filter tab, do the following:

   1. In the Filters area, do one of the following:

      • To add file types that must be content indexed to the list, type the extension in the Include File Types box and click Add.

      • To filter file types from being content indexed, select the file type from the list and click Remove.

      • To filter specific paths from being content indexed, type the path in the Exclude Paths box, and then click Add.

      • To restore the default values for filters, select the Restore to Default Filter option.

   2. In the File Sizes area, do one of the following:

      • In the Minimum document size box, enter the minimum size of files that must be content indexed.

      • In the Maximum document size box, enter the maximum size of files that must be content indexed.

6. On the Data Access Nodes tab, do the following:

   1. In the Number of Data Readers area, the Automatically use optimal number of data readers option is the default option. To enter a specific number of streams for the restore operation, in the Use n data readers box, type the number of streams. The default value is 1.

   2. Select from the list of Available data access nodes and click Add All. You must select a minimum of one data access node for your restore operation.

      Note

      All client computers that have the Web Server package and/or the Index Gateway package installed on them are displayed in the Available data access nodes list. All client group computers created in the CommCell Console are displayed in the Available data access nodes list.

7. Click OK.
