You can export the backup data as a network share from the CommCell Console. The selected Network Storage server exports the backup data as NFS and SMB shares to the specified network clients.
The following agents support network share creation from the CommCell Console:
-
UNIX file system clients
-
Windows file system clients
-
NAS clients for file system
Before You Begin
To create a CIFS share, you must install SAMBA, and then enable the CIFS and SMB protocol for 3DFS network shares. For more information, see Getting Started with 3DFS.
Procedure
-
To create the NFS or SMB share, do one of the following:
-
Backup set level
-
From the CommCell Console, expand Client Computers > client > File System.
-
Right-click the backup_set that contains the backup data, point to All Tasks, and then click Manage Network Share.
-
-
Subclient level
-
From the CommCell Console, expand Client Computers > client > File System > backup_set.
-
Right-click the subclient that contains the backup data, and then click Manage Network Share.
-
-
-
Right-click the backup set or subclient that contains the backup data, and then click Manage Network Share.
The Network Share dialog box appears.
-
Click Add.
The Create New Share dialog box appears.
-
In the Share Name box, type the network share name.
-
In the Protocol list, select the file sharing protocol.
-
In the Network Storage Server list, select the MediaAgent that will act as a Network Storage server.
If you select the SMB protocol, only Windows MediaAgents are displayed in the Network Storage Server list. However, if you select the NFS protocol both Windows and Linux MediaAgents are displayed.
-
In the Browse MA list, select the MediaAgent that will used as the indexing server.
Commvault recommends choosing the backup MediaAgent as the indexing server.
-
In the Copy Precedence box, type the copy precedence number for the backup copy.
-
To enable ACLs on 3DFS network share, select the Enable ACL check box.
For more information, see Restricting User Access to 3DFS Shares with ACLs.
-
To display the deleted files from the network share in the Network Share dialog box, select the Show Deleted Items check box.
-
Choose one of the following options for the network share:
-
To create a read-only share with the most recent backup data, select the Refresh on backup check box.
For more information, see 3DFS Refresh on Backup.
-
To create a share that reflects the data before the specified time, in the Restore Time list, select a date and time.
Note
Read-only SMB shares are created.
-
-
For Linux MediaAgents, to control the access to the share by network clients, choose one of the following options:
-
To allow all network clients to access the share, click All Clients.
-
To allow specific network clients to access the share, click Custom, and enter the host name or the IP address of the network client.
Separate multiple host names or IP addresses with a comma (,).
You can also specify a subnet mask in CIDR (Classless Inter-Domain Routing) notation. For example, to give network share access to all network clients that have IP addresses in 192.168.0.0 subnet, enter 192.16.0.0/16.
-
-
Click OK.
Result
The network share appears in the Network Share dialog box.
