Extracting Cabinet Files in GxTail

Updated

Cabinet files (.cab) contain one or more individual files. Using the Extract CAB Files function, you can extract those individual files into any directory for which you have write permission, then open the files in GxTail.

Before You Begin

Launch GxTail. It is not necessary to have a log file open.

Procedure

  1. Click Tools > Extract CAB Files.

  2. In the Source > CAB File box, click the file_open_button button, and then navigate to the file.

  3. To extract the contained files to the directory that contains the cabinet file, select Extract to CAB file directory itself.

  4. To extract the files to another directory, clear Extract to CAB file directory itself. Click the file_open_button button and locate the folder, and then click OK.

  5. Optional: Select Open ALL extracted files (*.log) to have the files you extract automatically open, each in its own tab in GxTail.

  6. Optional: Select Extract Sub Cab files to have GxTail open log files in subdirectories contained in the cabinet file structure when opening the log files.

  7. Click OK.
