When you create a network share client, a default backup set is automatically created. The default backup set contains a default subclient. The default subclient does not contain any content. By using the default subclient, you can back up the CIFS shares on the file server.
The following information is not backed up by the default subclient:

Hidden system CIFS shares, such as c$, admin$, ipc$ and etc$.

CIFS shares created by the Commvault software on a cloned volume or on a snapshot path.

CIFS shares marked as not browsable on the file server. To back up non-browsable CIFS shares, create a new subclient and manually enter the path to the share.

Content that is defined in other subclients within the same backup set.
You can configure the data access nodes as backup nodes for the network share subclient. The backup operation runs on the selected nodes. You can set data access nodes at the agent level or at the subclient level. If you set data access nodes at both the agent level and the subclient level, the nodes set at the subclient level take precedence.
Before You Begin

Verify that all Windows data access nodes have access and permissions to the CIFS share.

Verify that the impersonate user credentials have read and write permissions on the CIFS share.

If you are creating a subclient whose content is CIFS shares from non-default access zone, verify that the subclient content is from the same access zone.
Procedure

From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > Windows File System > defaultBackupSet.

Right-click the default subclient, and then click Properties.
The Subclient Properties dialog box appears.

On the Content tab, automatically discover CIFS shares on the file server:

Click Add Paths, and then type the CIFS interface: \\hostname\ or \\IP_address\.

Click OK.
The Impersonate User dialog box appears.

Enter the credentials needed to access the file server.

On the Storage Device tab, from the Storage Policy list, select the storage policy to associate with the subclient.
Tip
To create a new storage policy, click Create Storage Policy, and then follow the instructions in the storage policy creation wizard.

On the Data Access Nodes tab, under Available Data Access Nodes, select the data access nodes to include in the backup operation, and then click Add.

From the available nodes list, you can select a client or a client group (that contains Windows clients).

All the participating backup nodes must be at the same service pack level.

On the Performance tab, select the Allow multiple readers within a drive or mount point check box, and then increase the number of data readers as needed based on the number of data access nodes that you added.

On the Advanced Options tab, select the Reconcile Backup check box.

Click OK.
