Out-of-Place Restore Operations for the NDMP Agent

You can restore the data to the following locations:

  • Different volume/folder on the same file server

  • Different file server

  • Windows or Unix client

Note

  • When performing an out-of-place restore from a ZFS-NDMP backup, you must change the Preserve n level from end of the source path value to 0.

  • When performing out-of-place restores using the NetApp SnapMirror Cloud Target copy, the following conditions apply:

    • Restores are supported only to the NetApp clusters.

    • Only file-based restores are supported. Directory restores are not supported.

    • When performing full volume out-of-place restores within same NetApp cluster, only data protection volumes are supported as the restore destination. Ensure that the data protection volume is of same size as the source volume.

    • When performing full volume out-of-place restores to a different NetApp cluster, ensure that sufficient space is available on the aggregate of source storage virtual machine (SVM).

For more information on NetApp Open Replication with SnapMirror Cloud, see NetApp Open Replication with SnapMirror Cloud (SM-C).

Do not restore data to a read-only location or a UNC path, otherwise out of place restores will fail.
