Performing a Full Destructive Restore from a Volume Based Backup

Applies To: EMC Celerra

A VBB full destructive restore is an out-of-place restore of a volume based backup. During this process, the last full backup of an entire volume is restored to a raw file system (rawfs) that is created on the file server.

Procedure

  1. Run a volume based backup.

  2. Create a raw file system (rawfs) on the file server.

Refer to the EMC Celerra documentation for more information.

  3. From the CommCell Console, go to client > NDMP.

  4. Right-click the backup set, and then click All Tasks > Browse and Restore.

  5. Click View Content.

  6. Select the root volume to be restored, and then click Recover All Selected.

  7. Clear the Restore to same folder check box.

  8. In the Specify destination path box, type the destination path.

    For example: /.celerra_vol_10780

where 10780 matches the volume ID from the nas_fs -i rawfs command for the raw file system.

  9. In the Preserve box, set the value to 0.

  10. Click OK.

  11. After the restore completes, set the volume type as usable.
