Sending Log Files

You can send CommCell system and client information, such as database logs, client logs, updates, and configuration details to one or more email recipients. By default, log files are sent to https://logs.commvault.com/webconsole. By default, the Install folder location is included in the log information and appears in the AllUsersProfile.7z file.

You can also save the log files to a local or network location. The location must have free space that is double the size of the CommServe database.

Before You Begin

If you want to send email notifications to users about log files, configure a mail server in the CommCell Console. For instructions, see E-Mail Server Configuration.

Warning Log files can be large files, and emails with large file attachments are often rejected by email servers.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the CommServe, point to All Tasks, and then click Send Log Files.

    The Send Log Files dialog box appears.

  2. On the Computers tab, select the computers that you want to send log the files for.

  3. On the CommCell Information tab, select the CommCell logs to be uploaded from the following list:

    • CommServe Database

    • Get Latest Database(s)

      If you select this option, a disaster recovery job will run on the CommServe database, and the logs from that disaster recovery job will be sent.

    • Database Logs

    • Other Databases (CVCloud, WFEngine, HistoryDB, and UsageHistoryDB)

    • Troubleshooting Database

      This option is available only if you select the CommServe Database check box.

  4. On the Machine Information tab, select any of the following client logs that you want to upload:

    • Logs

    • Machine Configuration

    • OS Logs

    • Process Dump

    • Job Results

    • Index

    • Index Transaction Logs

    • Include logs under (C:ProgramData) [AllUsersProfile]

    • Include database used for Optimized Scan

    • Scrub Log Files: To mask host names, IP addresses, and file paths, select this option.

    • HyperScale information

    • User application logs (ex. Oracle, HANA): Used to collect user application log files from the trace, dump, and cdump folders. Files up to 7 days old are collected. For large dump files, the last 10,000 lines are collected.

  5. On the Output tab, configure the location where you want to send the log files:

    • To send the log files to the default HTTPS location, leave the Upload to HTTPS check box selected.

    • To save the log files to a local or network location, select the Output To checkbox, select Local Path or Network Path, and then click Browse to select the folder path. If you select Network and need access to the network path, click Impersonate, and then specify the user account.

    • To send log files as an email attachment, select the Attach logs to E-mails (not recommended) check box.

      Note

      This option is deprecated and removed from Command Center.

    • To split large log files into smaller file chunks during the upload process, leave the Enable Chunking check box selected. To change the size of the file chunks, beside Chunk File Size, enter a number.

  6. To configure an email notification for sending the log files, do the following:

    1. On the Notifications tab, select the Email check box.

    2. From the Available Users and User Groups list, select the users who should receive the log files, and then click the right arrow button (>).

    3. In the Additional Recipients box, enter the email addresses for additional users who are not associated with the CommCell group.

    4. In the Subject (Ticket Number) box, enter the subject for email notification.

    5. In the Problem Description box, enter a description for the problem that requires troubleshooting.

  7. Click OK.
