Virtualize Me
Use this wizard to convert the client computer into a virtual machine. It involves following steps:
Select Recovery Points
This is the first step in the Virtualize Me wizard. In this step you can select the backup data which you want to use to create the virtual machine.
Backup Set
By default the data and client configuration backed by the default backupset is used to create the virtual machine.
If you want to use the data and configuration backed up by any other backupset, select the backup set from the list.
Recover from the latest backup and configuration
This option is selected by default. The latest backup data and client configuration is used to create the virtual machine. You can create the virtual machine using a backup performed at a specific point-in-time.
Select Point in Time
Select this option to specify the specific point-in-time. The backup performed at the specific point-in-time will be used to create the virtual machine.
You can specify the point-in-time as follows:
Restore Data Before:
Select a date and specify the time.
Time zone
The default time zone of the CommServe is selected automatically. Select the Time zone if you want to use the backup performed in a different time zone.
Next
Click this button to go to next step.
Virtual Machine Location
VMWare
In this step you can select the location of the virtual machine on the vCenter.
vCenter
Select the vCenter where you want to create the virtual machine. The list displays all the vCenters for which you have created the virtualization clients.

Select a datastore listed under the ESX server that you selected.
ISO Path
Select the ISO from the datastore on the ESX server.
VM Name
Specify the name of the virtual machine. By default, the client name will be used as the name of the virtual machine.
Overwrite VM
Select this check box if a virtual machine with the specified name already exists on the ESX server. All the data and configuration of the existing virtual machine will be overwritten by the backup data and configuration of the client computer.
Expiration Date
You can select the expiration date of the virtual machine. Clear the Never check box and select the date. At the end of expiration date, the virtual machine is powered off and decommissioned.
If you select the Never check box, the virtual machine will never expire and get decommissioned.
Next
Click this button to go to next step.
Hyper-V
In this step you can select the location of the virtual machine on the Hyper-V Server.
Hyper-V Instance
Select an Hyper-V instance from the available list of instances.
Hyper-V Host
Select an Hyper-V hosts from the list of available hosts.
Storage
Type or browse the location where you want to create the virtual machine. The selected path appears in the box.
ISO Path
Browse to the location where the Boot CD image resides on the Hyper-V Server.
Review Recovery Options
In this step you can change the client configuration.
General tab
Following options are available to modify the client configuration:
Host Name
The host name of the CommServe which is used to backup client.
Client Name
The name of the CommServe Client.
IP Address
Enter the IP Address of the CommServe which is used to backup the client.
Access Token
By default, an access token associated with the user account which you have used to login to CommCell console is populated and will be used to perform the Virtualize Me operation. You can create a new access token in the Command Center, and then add the token in the Access Token field.
Configuration Tab
Following options are available to modify the client configuration:
Number of CPUs
Increase or decrease the Number of CPUs.
Memory in (MB)
Specify the Memory in MB.
Enable Dynamic Memory
You can select the Enable Dynamic Memory check box to achieve higher consolidation or virtual machine (VM) density ratios while optimizing the memory utilization in the physical machine. The Enable Dynamic Memory is applicable for hypervisor operating systems 2012 R2 and later versions.
Network Configuration
Displays a list of all Network Interfaces available in the client. Select the interface which you want to use for the virtual machine.
Add
Click this option to add a new Network Interface.
Edit
Click this option to change an existing Network Interface.
Delete
Click this option to remove a Network Interface.
Disk Configuration Tab
Following options are available to modify the disk configuration of the client:
Automatic Disk Layout
Select this check box to increase the disk size automatically.
The Disk Configuration tab displays following lists:
List of Volumes
This is the list of volumes available on the client computer. The list has following columns:
Volume
Displays the drive letters assigned to the volume.
Disk Name
Displays the name of physical disk associated with the volume.
Capacity
Displays the volume size. Double-click in this column to change the size of any volume.
Selected
Select the check box in this column to select a volume. The selected volumes will be added to the virtual machine. You can select only system drives and add the non-system drives later.
List of Physical Disks
This is a list of physical disks on the client computer. The list has following columns
-
Disk Name - If you clear the check box for any physical disk, all the volumes on the physical disks will be automatically removed from the virtual machine.
-
Disk Size (GB) - Displays the size of the physical disk.
-
Datastore - Displays the name of the datastore on the vCenter where the disk will be created. Click and select a datastore where you want to create all the disk. By default all the disks will be created in the default data store.
-
Disk Provisioning - Select the disk provisioning for each physical disk. By default, thin provisioning will be used for disk space allocation for all disks.
Restore Options tab
Following options are available to restore the client configuration and data onto the virtual machine:
Copy Precedence
If you want to use the client configuration and data available in a specific storage policy copy, enter copy precedence number for the specific copy.
The table displays the storage policy and the storage policy copies corresponding to the copy precedence number.
Do not use Windows Mini-Setup
Select this check box if you do not want to run the Windows Mini-Setup Wizard. If you are performing a cross hardware restore, the Windows Mini-Setup wizard runs after the Full System Restore.
