Windows File System: System Requirements

Verify that your environment meets the system requirements for the Windows file system.

Operating System

Important

  • Use the most recent version of the operating system that is listed. The Commvault software fully supports the most recent version of an operating system, until the vendor ends support. More recent versions of the Commvault software might not install on operating systems that are not supported by the vendor anymore. For information about the support lifecycle of an operating system, contact the vendor.

Software That Is Automatically Installed

.NET Framework

On most versions of Windows, the .NET Framework 4.7 is automatically installed.

Microsoft Visual C++

The following redistributable packages are installed automatically. Multiple versions of the package can be installed on the same computer.

Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable Package

For Windows 2008 R2 computers, use a minimum of Service Pack 1.

Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable Package ( Required for the Virtual Server, Content Extractor, and IntelliSnap packages)

Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (Only with the IntelliSnap package)

Note

The Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable Package can be uninstalled if

  • you are not using IntelliSnap engine DataCore Snap or any other DataCore snapshot related features

  • you are backing up only VDDK version 7.x or higher for the Virtual Server Agent. If you are backing up VDDK versions lower that 7.x, the Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Package must not be uninstalled

  • you are using only Content Extractor on the instance

The Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package can be uninstalled if you are not using IntelliSnap engine DataCore Snap or any other DataCore snapshot related features.

Visual C++ Redistributable 2017

Starting in Service Pack 17, the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2017 (vcredist2017.exe) is automatically installed.

If a computer does not have the most recent Windows updates, then the installation of Universal C Runtime, as part of the installation of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2017, fails. To prevent the installation failure, install the following Windows updates:

  • KB2919355

  • KB2939087

  • KB2975061

  • KB2999226

Updates are not required on the most recent Windows operating system versions, such as Microsoft Windows 10 and Microsoft Windows Server 2016, because the Universal C Runtime is already installed on those versions.
