Creating a Vault/Replica or Mirror Copy for the NetApp Open Replication Feature

Create a secondary snapshot copy for the NetApp Open Replication feature.

Before You Begin

  • To create the vault/replica or the mirror copy , you must use a backup plan that does not have the OnCommand Unified Manager (OCUM) information.

If you have not yet done so, create a backup plan with a snap primary copy. See Creating a Backup Plan and a Primary Snap Copy.

  • If you are using NetApp Open Replication with SnapMirror Cloud, configure an array access node that runs Commvault Platform Release 2023E (11.32) or later.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Manage > Plans.

    The Plans page appears.

  2. In the Plan name column, select the plan to add the vault/replica or the mirror copy.

The Overview page of the backup plan appears.

  3. Go to Storage policies tab.

  4. In the Copies area, click Add and then click Snap copy.

The Add snapshot copy dialog box appears.

  5. In the Name box, type a name for the snapshot copy.

  6. To enable NetApp snapmirror cloud, move the NetApp SnapMirror Cloud Target toggle key to the right.

  7. From Copy type, select one of the following:

    • For SnapVault and MirrorVault relationships, select Vault/Replica.

    • For SnapMirror and Version Flexible Mirror relationships, select Mirror. For mirror copies, the Retention Rules option does not appear because the retention rules of the mirror copy will be the same as of the source copy.

  8. From the Storage list, select a storage.

  9. From the Backups to copy list, select a backup job type.

  10. From the Source list, select one of the following:

    1. If you are using NetApp Open Replication, select a source copy for the topology that you want to set up, and then click Next.

    2. If you are using NetApp Open Replication with SnapMirror Cloud, select the Primary Snap copy as the source.

  11. To select a date from which you want to copy the backup types, do one of the following:

    • To copy the backup types from the initial backup date, select Protect from initial backup date.

    • To select a specific date, select Protect from a specific date and then set the Start time.

    • If you are using NetApp Open Replication with SnapMirror Cloud, select the NetApp Cloud Target check box.

When the NetApp SnapMirror Cloud Target copy is created, the Enable Deferred Snap Cataloging is enabled automatically at the backup plan level to catalog the snapshots with Primary Snap as the source. For more information, see Backup Plan (Snapshot).

The SnapMirror Cloud Target copy is automatically associated to the System Created Deferred Catalog and System Created Autocopy (Auxiliary Copy) schedule policies.

  12. For the Retention rules, select either Retention period or Number of snap recovery points, and then add the rules.

    Note

To set the snapshot copy as a spool copy, set the Retention period to 0 days.

  13. To specify additional backups, such as weekly full backups, move the Extended Retention rules toggle key to the right, and then add rules.

  14. To add mappings, in the Mappings field, click Add.

The Add Mappings dialog box appears.

    Note

    • Ensure to add SVM mappings (source and destination array pair in a snapmirror relationship) for all subclients assigned to the backup plan. If SVM mappings are missing or do not match the snapmirror relationship, then snapshot replication fails.

    • For the SnapMirror Cloud Target copy, the SVM mappings must be unique.

    1. From the Snapshot vendor list, select a snap vendor.

Based on the vendor selected, the Source Entity changes to Source Region, Source Array, or Source SVM.

    2. From the Source Entity list, select an entity to create a mapping.

Based on the vendor selected, the Target Entity changes to Destination Region, Target Array, or Target SVM.

    3. From the Target Entity list, select a target entity.

    4. If you have added an array as a snap vendor, do the following:

      1. To enable associating a subclient, move the Associate subclients toggle key to the right.

      2. From the Subclients list, select a subclient to associate.

    5. Click ADD.

    6. Review the Mappings added, and then click SAVE.

  15. Click SAVE.
