Using the Data Import app, you can import Avamar file system and NDMP backup jobs to Commvault. The backup jobs are restored as files from an Avamar client and staged on a data access node (staging client) to initiate backups to Commvault storage.
The app uses Avamar commands to fetch clients, policies, and backup jobs from Avamar and populates the configuration database. Then, from the Command Center, you can select the jobs that you want to import to Commvault storage. The app recovers the selected backup jobs based on parameters such as parallel jobs and data access nodes. The recovered data is then backed up to Commvault storage using configured backup plans and data access nodes.
The overall performance of the data import operation depends on multiple environmental factors, such as restore throughput from Avamar, backup performance, attached storage, and available resources. After the backup job is complete, the staging area is cleaned so that you can retry or import the same Avamar job if the earlier backup job did not complete successfully.
Note
-
We import third-party backups as files (file system data) and NDMP backups from Avamar. You cannot import data from other agents or applications such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and VM backups.
-
Retention support for Avamar NDMP migration is not available at this time. The Data Import app uses Commvault backup plans selected during migration settings. Currently, retention support is available only for Avamar File System (FS) migration.
