Enabling Immutable Snapshot on Primary Snapshot Copy

Enable immutable snapshots on primary snapshot copies to prevent the accidental or intentional snapshot modification or deletion until a set retention time. Once you enable Immutable snapshot, you cannot disable it. This is an irreversible action.

Note

  • Creating an immutable snapshot with the primary snapshot and vault/replica copies will prevent the creation of normal snapshots with the same copy. Immutability will be applied to the current and future-dependent snapshot copies.

  • Enabling immutable snapshot automatically enables compliance lock on the primary snapshot. Both immutability and compliance lock will be enabled on the dependent vault/replica copies.

Procedure

To enable Immutable snapshot on the primary copy, do the following:

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Manage > Plans.

    The Plans page appears.

  2. In the Plan name column, select the backup plan.

The Overview page of the backup plan appears.

  3. Go to Storage policies tab.

  4. In the Copies area, select the primary copy on which you want to enable the immutable snapshots.

The Configuration page of the snap copy appears.

  5. To edit the retention period, do the following:

    Note

You can only set days-based retention to enable immutable snapshots. Extended retention is not supported. Spool copy is also not supported.

    1. In the Retention rules tile, click edit edit button outline grey/gray pencil.

The Edit retention settings page of the snap copy appears.

    2. Set the Retention period in terms of number of days.

    3. Click SAVE

  6. In the General tile, move the Immutable snapshot toggle key to the right.

The Configure immutable snapshot dialog box appears.
