Getting Started with Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale File Server from the Command Center

To perform faster backups on data that resides on the Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale File Server in the Command Center, you need to configure a NAS client, configure the storage array, and then configure a subclient. Then you can run a backup operation.

Procedure

  1. Verify that your access node meets the hardware specifications to back up the CIFS shares and NFS exports.

  2. Verify the following about your environment.

    • For CIFS shares using Windows access nodes, meets the system requirements for the Windows access nodes

    • For CIFS shares using Linux access nodes, meets the system requirements for the Linux access nodes

      • The samba-client or smbclient and the cifs-utils packages must be installed on the Linux access nodes if they are used to back up CIFS shares.

        cifs-utils version

        Operating System

What is backed up and restored

        cifs-utils 6.2

        Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.x

        DACL

        cifs-utils 7.0

        Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.x

        DACL and owner

        cifs-utils 7.0

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.x - Kernel 5.11

        DACL, owner, and SACL

    • For NFS exports, meets the system requirements for the Linux access nodes

You can back up NFS exports through HyperScale X access nodes as well.

      HyperScale X version cifs-utils samba-client or smbclient
      HSX 3.x cifs-utils-7.0-1.el8.x86_64 samba-client-4.18.6-2.el8_9.x86_64
      HSX 2.x (2.2) cifs-utils-6.2-10.el7.x86_64 samba-client-4.11.6-116.el7rhgs.x86_64

    Note

    • For existing HyperScale X clients, Samba client and cifs-utils packages are automatically installed during the OS update to Commvault software Service Pack 36.

    • For new HyperScale X clients, Samba client and cifs-utils packages are automatically included in the Commvault software Service Pack 36 media.

  3. Add the Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale NAS File Server to back up CIFS shares, NFS exports, or NDMP backups.

  4. Optional: Enable IntelliSnap backups for the Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale subclient.

    Note

CIFS backup using Linux access nodes is not supported with IntelliSnap.

  5. Perform a test backup and restore

    1. Perform a backup.

    2. Perform a restore.
