Getting Started with NetApp

Getting started with backing up NetApp file server data includes verifying the system requirements, adding the NetApp file server, and then performing a test backup and restore.

Procedure

  1. Verify that your access node meets the hardware specifications to back up the CIFS shares and NFS exports.

  2. Commvault uses optimized scanning for faster incremental backups. Verify that your environment meets the system requirements.

  3. Verify the following about your environment.

    • For CIFS shares using Windows access nodes, meets the system requirements for the Windows access nodes

    • For CIFS shares using Linux access nodes, meets the system requirements for the Linux access nodes

      • The samba-client or smbclient and the cifs-utils packages must be installed on the Linux access nodes if they are used to back up CIFS shares.

    • For NFS exports, meets the system requirements for the Linux access nodes

      You can back up NFS exports through HyperScale X access nodes as well.

    Note

    • For existing HyperScale X clients, Samba client and cifs-utils packages are automatically installed during the OS update to Commvault Platform Release 2024E (11.36).

    • For new HyperScale X clients, Samba client and cifs-utils packages are automatically included in the Commvault Platform Release 2024E (11.36) media.

  4. If you want to use IntelliSnap for all backups, verify that your environment meets the system requirements.

    Note

    CIFS backup using Linux access nodes is not supported with IntelliSnap.

  5. Add the NetApp file server.

  6. Optional: Enable IntelliSnap backups for the NetApp subclient.

  7. Perform a test backup and restore.
