Google Cloud Replication

Replication configuration includes Google Cloud (GC) setup and Commvault configuration. You can configure the required Commvault entities individually, or all together using the recovery group configuration tool.

Commvault Configuration

Commvault configuration includes the following entities:

  • Hypervisor configurations for the source and destination sites

  • Recovery target for each destination site

  • Replication group for virtual machines or instances that are replicated from the primary site to the secondary site

In addition, you can deploy access nodes in your environment to manage operations and MediaAgents to manage data movement. These entities are needed on the primary and destination sites.

GC Hypervisor Configuration

Define a GC service account with permissions to access GC instances and projects.

  • To back up and restore GC instances, you must create a GC service account, and then download the JSON file for GC service account authentication. You will need this file when you add a GC hypervisor to your environment.

For more information, see "Create a Google Cloud Service Account" in Configuring Backups for Google Cloud.

  • The access node must be present on Google Cloud. You can designate one access node to back up instances from multiple projects (to which access rights are provided in your GC service account). For faster backups and restores, designate at least one access node for every GC region.
