Index Backups for Virtual Server Agents

Beginning in Innovation Release 11.38, Commvault now includes index backups when you run full or synthetic full backups for Virtual Server Agents (VSA). Although this feature is applicable to newly created VSA clients only, you can enable the feature on existing clients.

This feature ensures that the index backup is stored on the same media as the regular backup, which helps expedite data reconstruction in disaster recovery scenarios. Additionally, this feature promotes efficient tape utilization by allowing faster aging of index backups that lie outside the backup media and which are not needed for the data aging cycle.

Note

Enabling this feature might increase the time it takes to complete a full or synthetic full backup, since the index must be replayed in the index database before the backup of the index itself can begin.
