Restoring SAP for Oracle Data to a Different Location (Out of Place)

You can restore SAP for Oracle data a different location (out of place). You can restore the entire database to the same client with different SID and different client with same SID or different SID. Also, You can restore to the current time or to a point in time.

Before You Begin

Set the database to the correct mode:

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Databases.

    The Overview page appears.

  2. Click the Instances tab.

    The Instances page appears.

  3. Click on an instance and select the Subclients tab.

    The subclients list appears.

  4. In the row for the subclient that you want to restore, click the action button action_button, and then select Restore.

    The Backup content dialog box appears.

  5. Select the content to restore, and then click Restore.

    The Restore options dialog box appears.

  6. On the Out of Place tab, specify the following:

    1. From the Restore type list, select the option to restore to a database copy or directly to a disk. If you want to restore the contents of the backup job to an out-of-place path, select Restore to disk.

    2. From the Destination Server list, select the destination server for the restore.

    3. From the Destination instance list, select the destination instance for the restore.

    4. In Number of streams, enter the number of streams to use for the restore.

    5. Under Restore, select the check boxes for the data to restore:

      • Data

      • Control file

      • Archive log

    6. If you enabled IntelliSnap backups of the subclient, to revert the data to the time when the snapshot was created, select the Use snap revert check box.

      Selecting this check box restores the entire LUN to the point when the snapshot was created, overwriting all the modifications to the data since the snapshot was created.

      This check box is available only if the snapshot engine used for the IntelliSnap backup supports the revert operation.

    7. Under Recovery To Type, specify whether to restore to the current time or to a point in time.

    8. If you want to specify whether to open the database after the restore/recovery operation has completed, check the Open DB check box. Selecting this option will open the database, and enable the Reset Logs option.

    9. To specify pre or post recovery scripts, do the following under Pre or Post options:

      • Type the path to the script.

      • To run a script as a specific user, move the Run as user toggle to the right and type the user name and password.

  7. Click Submit.

What to Do Next

After the restore is complete, if the current database is not consistent, you can restore the database to a point other than the current time.
