Commvault supports Threat Analysis scans for virtual machine (VM) backups. During the scan process, the backup data is restored to an out-of-place VM, which is then scanned for malware using Commvault's built-in scanning engine.

Requirements for the Restored VM
Threat Analysis is supported for out-of-place restores to the following hypervisor platforms:

Supported File Systems for the Restored VM

Windows: NTFS, FAT32

Linux: XFS, Ext2, Ext3, Ext4
Requirements for the Access Node

For Amazon EC2 and Azure, the access node must reside in the same subscription as the restored VM.

For Linux VMs, the access node must run the same or a newer version of the operating system than that of the restored VM being scanned.
