Adding an Additional IBM i Server

You can add an additional IBM i server to your Commvault solution to replace an existing server or to help reduce the load on existing servers.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, click Servers.

  2. In the upper-right, from the Add server list, select Add IBM i server.

The Add IBM i server dialog box appears.

  3. In the Server Name box, type the server name.

  4. In the Host Name box, type the host name.

  5. In the Data folder box, type the location for data files.

  6. In the CVD port box, type or select the CVD port number.

    Note

The port number must be the same port value that you specified in the IBM i File System Agent client host configuration. The default value is 9401. Use a value of 0 to indicate that it is the default port number.

  7. To set the IBM i user credentials, in the IBM i user credentials area, complete the following steps:

    1. In the Username and Password boxes, type the credentials for the IBM i server.

      Note

The software uses this user profile to run the Commvault operations and to set ownership of Commvault binaries.

You must select a user profile that meets the following requirements:

      • The profile has the *SECOFR user class and with all special authorities.

      • The profile is enrolled in the QDLS file system when QDLS data protection is required.

      • The profile has the language parameters set to English by using “LANGID(ENU) CNTRYID(US) CCSID(00037)”.

      • For IBM i machines that do not use English as the primary language and that only have non-English language libraries, use a subsystem that has a Subsystem library attribute (SYSLIBLE) set to the English library “QSYS2924” to run Commvault jobs. For more information about how to enable the secondary language for a subsystem, see IBM documentation.

      • You cannot use the following system user profiles: "QDBSHR", "QDOC", "QLPAUTO", "QLPINSTALL", "QRJE", "QSECOFR", "QSPL", "QDFTOWN", "QTSTRQS", "QSYS".

    2. From the Proxy client list, select the proxy client name or client group name on which the File System Agent was installed.

      Note

      • Linux clients and client groups that have IBM i File System Agent installed are displayed in the Available Proxy Nodes list. You can select one or more clients or client groups. The proxies are selected for performing a backup operation based on the order of the Selected Proxy Nodes list.

      • When you select a client group, ensure that at least one client in the group has the IBM i File System Agent installed. Otherwise, the backup job will go to a pending state.

      • If a proxy client fails during a backup job and the backup job goes to a pending state, when the job is resumed, that proxy client will be selected for the job automatically. If that proxy client fails, the next proxy client is selected based on the order of the Selected Proxy Nodes list. On resuming the backup job, the proxy selection always starts from the first proxy client in the Selected Proxy Nodes list.

      • All the proxy clients in the Selected Proxy Nodes list must be at the same Service Pack level.

  8. In the Subsystem Description box, type the IBM i subsystem description of the active subsystem name where the Commvault services run. Use the following format:

    “<Library_Name>/<Subsystem_Description>”.

For example, if you specify “QSYS/QCTL”, then the software runs the Commvault services, backup and restore jobs, under the QCTL subsystem.

    Note

For IBM i machines that do not use English as the primary language and that only have non-English language libraries, use a subsystem that has a Subsystem library attribute (SYSLIBLE) set to the English library “QSYS2924” to run Commvault jobs. For more information about how to enable the secondary language for a subsystem, see the IBM documentation.

  9. In the Job queue box, type the Job queue name in the following format: “<Library>/<JOBQ_object>”

The job queue must be connected to the subsystem that you specified in the Subsystem Description box. If the job queue is not connected, then select the Create job queue check box. When you select this check box, the software creates creates a separate job queue under the Commvault CVLIBOBJ library and connects to the specified subsystem.

  10. To have the software create a separate job queue under the Commvault CVLIBOBJ library and connect to the specified subsystem, select the Create job queue check box.

    Example

If the Subsystem Description is “QSYS/QCTL” and you select the Create job queue check box, then the default value for the job queue is “CVLIBOBJ/QCTL”

  11. In the Job Priority box, type or select the job priority of the Commvault jobs that run on the IBM i client. The valid values are 1-9, where 1 is the highest priority. The default value is 5.

  12. In the Run Priority box, type or select the job run priority of the Commvault jobs that run on the IBM i client. The valid values are 1-99, where 1 is the highest priority. The default value is 50.

  13. Click Save.

Result

The software creates the additional IBM i server.
