Getting Started with the IBM i File System Agent

Step 1: Before You Begin

Refer to the following information to learn more about the capabilities and requirements of the IBM i File System Agent:

Step 2: Install the File System Agent and File System for the IBM i Agent on Access Node

Install the packages on a Linux access node by using one of the following options.

• Use a predefined OVA template with vCenter and ESX to create a LINUX Proxy For more information, see Deploy a Virtual Machine for UNIX-Based File Restores.

  The File System Agent is installed as a "restore only agent". Perform the following tasks to change the configuration:

  1. Reconfigure the agent.

  2. Install the IBM i File System Agent on the client. For more information, see Installing Commvault Remotely Using the CommCell Console.

     Select the File System for IBM i package.

  3. When you use the OVA template, the software automatically installs the VSA. Uninstall the agent.

• Install the Linux File System Agent

  Review each of the following topics to get started with the installation:

  • Plan the Installation on UNIX, Linux, and Mac Computers

    Review general guidelines to prepare for the installation, which include configurations that your computer might need before the installation.

  • Preinstallation Checklist for the File System Agent on UNIX, Linux, or Mac

    Review agent specific guidelines to prepare for the installation, such as gathering the information that you must provide during the installation.

  • Installation Methods

    Select the installation method that is most appropriate for your environment.

Step 3: Prepare for Your First Backup and Restore

1. Open CommCell Console.

2. Configure a Storage Device

3. Create an IBM i File System Agent Client, and install the Commvault package on the IBM i client.

4. Configure user-defined subclients.

5. Decide whether you want the following additional functionality:

   • You want to be notified of events that require attention. For more information, see Alerts and Notifications - Overview.

   • You want to report and analyze critical data about your CommCell operations.

   • You want to manage security. For more information, see User Account and Password Management - Getting Started.

   • You want to have a Data Interface Pair between the proxy and the IBM i client. For more information, see Data Interface Pairs: Overview.
