The data is moved to cloud storage when you run a backup job on the Reference Copy subclient. Subsequently, the data present in the Reference Copy subclient is pruned based on the storage policy settings.
If a synthetic full job is the only job available on the source subclient, then the reference copy job fails. See KB Article DAPR0007 for more information.
Once the backup job completes, a reference time is set so that the next job will qualify the files or stubs to be backed up based on the set reference time.
Procedure

From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > File System > backup set.

Right-click the Reference Copy subclient, and then click Backup.

In the Select Backup Type area, choose your backup type:

To perform an incremental backup, select Incremental.

The first backup job will be a full backup.

Both data and stub versions of files are backed up.

In the Job Initiation area, define whether the backup job runs immediately or if it will be scheduled.
