Picking Up Media for a Refresh Job Automatically

You can set the criteria so that any media that satisfies the criteria is picked up for a refresh operation automatically.

Before You Begin

Ensure that the media refresh operation is enabled on the storage policy copy.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies>Storage Policies>storage_policy.

  2. Right-click the storage_policy_copy and then click Properties.

    The Copy Properties dialog box is displayed.

  3. Click the Media tab.

  4. By default, the Media that is full, is selected based on the following criteria. Enter the number of months.

    1. months after the media were written

      Media that were not written to in the specified number of months are picked up for refresh.

    2. months before the media is aged

      Media with a specified number of months or more before aging are picked up for refresh.

  5. Optional: This criterion is applied on media that have met months after the media were written criterion. Select a media based on its capacity.

    • Select % or less of media capacity is used check box. Enter the percentage of media capacity that must be used before the media is picked up for refresh.

      Tip: Media capacity refers to the physical size of unaged data on the media. Media is picked for refresh if the amount of data written is less than or equal to the percentage of total capacity of media.

      For example: If the criteria set to pick a media M1 for refresh is 70% or less of the media capacity, and if media M1 has a capacity of 4TB, then, M1 is picked for refresh only when the physical data on it reaches 2.8TB or less.

  6. Optional: This criterion is applied on media that have met months after the media were written criterion. Select a media based on the threshold parameters.

  7. Optional: To mark the media that are partially written in a media refresh job as active and to use the media for writing data, select mark refreshed appendable media active for new data option.

  8. Click OK.
