Setting a MediaAgent Offline for Maintenance

You can enable this option when you wish to perform routine or other maintenance tasks on devices. This option is available in the MediaAgent, Library and Drive levels and you can appropriately enable them where needed.

Backup, Restore and Auxiliary Copy operations will not use the associated MediaAgent/Library/Drive, depending on where the option is enabled. However, other administrative tasks on the devices such as Full Scan, Drive Cleaning, Verify Media etc. can be performed, if required.

When this option is enabled, the system will automatically select an alternate resource (MediaAgent/Library/Drive) for new jobs, if Alternate Data Paths (GridStor) is enabled. If alternate resources are not available, backup, restore and auxiliary copy jobs will remain in the Waiting state in the Job Controller and will automatically resume when you re-enable the appropriate MediaAgent/Library/Drive.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Storage Resources | MediaAgent.

  2. Right click the appropriate MediaAgent, and then click Properties.

  3. Click the Control tab.

  4. Select Mark MediaAgent Offline for Maintenance check box to mark a MediaAgent offline for maintenance.

    Note

Selecting the Mark MediaAgent Offline for Maintenance check box ignores the MediaAgent went Offline alert. Therefore, you will not get any alert notification after selecting the Mark MediaAgent Offline for Maintenance check box.

However, you can use the MediaAgent in Maintenance Mode alert rule to receive alert notification when the MediaAgent is marked offline for maintenance. For more information, see Alerts and Notifications - Installing Alert Rules from the Commvault Store.

  5. To set a specific date and time at which the MediaAgent should be marked offline, click the Enable after a Delay button.

    • Select the Automatically Enable at the following time check box.

    • Specify the Time Zone and Date to in which the MediaAgent should be marked for maintenance.

    • Click OK.

  6. Click OK to save the configuration.

Result

  • Existing jobs that are already running will continue to use the same resource (MediaAgent/Library/Drive) even after you enable this option.

  • Subsequent backup, restore and Auxiliary Copy operations will not use the associated MediaAgent/Library/Drive.
