Commvault provides a complete backup and restore solution for Microsoft Dynamics CRM databases. Use the SQL Server Agent to perform backup and restore operations of databases so that you can migrate the database to a new server.
Configuration
-
Manually add the CRM instance either to a new client or to an existing client.
For more information, see Manually Discovering SQL Instances.
-
Add the following databases to a new or existing user-defined subclient:
-
The MSCRM_Config configuration database. This database is created when you install the CRM server. This database contains the CRM server information, such as licensing. Every deployment requires a separate database instance.
-
The Organization_name_MSCRM database. This database contains the CRM metadata architecture. The metadata contains all configurations.
-
Reporting Services databases. Add these database when you want to protect the Reporting Services. The ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB are the default report databases. Microsoft Dynamics uses SQL Server Reporting Services that you must install in native mode.
-
For information about creating a user-defined subclient and adding databases to the subclient, see Creating User-Defined Subclients to Back Up a Group of SQL Databases.
Backups
Perform a full backup on the CRM user-defined subclient. To ensure that you data is automatically protected, schedule a backup (Backup Options dialog box, Job Initiation section, Schedule).
For more information, see Backing Up SQL Databases.
Restores
You can restore the CRM backup to the source client (in-place), or to a different client from the source (out-of-place). For more information, see one of the following procedures:
Reconfigure the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Application
If you performed an out-of-place restore, then you must configure your Dynamics CRM application to use the new SQL Server, and if applicable the SQL Reporting Services server, by setting the MSCRM registry key.
