Creating an Application Seed Package for Windows Computers Using the Installation Package

You can use the Download Manager to create an application seed package for Windows computers using the installation package.

Before You Begin

Procedure

  1. Start the Download Manager application, select where to extract the installation files, and then click Extract.

    The installation wizard opens.

  2. Choose a language, and then proceed to the next page.

  3. On the welcome page, select the I Agree check box, and then proceed to the next page.

  4. On the Choose the Installation Type page, click Create a custom package to install on a different computer and then proceed to the next page.

  5. On the Select Operating System Type page, select the type of Windows processor that your computers support, and then proceed to the next page.

  6. On the Custom Package Install Type page, select one of the following options, and then proceed to the next page:

    • New installations: Select this option to install the Commvault software on new clients, to perform a hardware refresh, or if you plan to install Commvault packages that need the Microsoft SQL Server (such as the CommServe).

The Download Manager downloads all the required installation files and service pack updates. For Commvault packages that need the SQL Server software, the Download Manager downloads Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Standard.

    • Upgrades: Select this option to upgrade clients from previous Commvault versions (for example, upgrade from Version 10 to Version 11).

For Commvault packages that use the SQL Server software, the Download Manager downloads Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Enterprise, which is needed to upgrade clients that have SQL Server 2008 Enterprise (or earlier versions).

    • Service Pack Installations: Select this option if you plan to install service pack updates or additional agents on an existing client.

  7. On the Select Package Option page, click Select Packages, and then proceed to the next page.

  8. On the Download Location page, specify the directory where you want to create the custom package, and then proceed to the next page.

  9. On the Select Packages page, select Microsoft Windows > File System Core.

For additional options, see Planning the Application Seed Package Creation on Windows Computers.

  10. On the Custom Package Instance Selection page, select one of the following options, and then proceed to the next page:

    • Create new instance: Select this option If the destination machine does not already have an existing Commvault instance.

    • Use an existing instance: If you have an instance installed, you can choose one of these options to install the package.

  11. On the Installation Path page, select the options that are required by your custom package, and then proceed to the next page.

    Note

If you decide to save your selections during the package creation, consider the following guidelines:

    • If Commvault is not installed on your computer, the Base Client software is installed to establish communications with the CommServe computer. You must provide the CommServe host name as well as the computer information.

    • If you want to create an interactive custom package, configure the package to display the necessary options to the user, and record the option names so that you can notify users to better prepare them for the installation.

  12. On the Configure Roles page, complete the following steps, and then proceed to the next page:

    • Clear the Configure for Laptop Backup check box.

    • Clear the Configure as Network Proxy check box.

    • Select the Configure Process Manager shortcut check box.

  13. On the Network Configuration page, if there is a firewall between the client and the CommServe server, then the computer where you create the package must have a Commvault instance installed with direct communication or proper firewall settings.

  14. On the CommServe Information page, enter a CommServe server host name, and then proceed to the next page.

  15. On the Client Certificate page, in the Certificate Export File Name box, enter the name of the export file (or leave blank, if no certificate is required), and then proceed to the next page.

  16. On the CommServe Authentication page, in the User Name and Password boxes, enter the credentials of a user account that has administrative permissions, and then proceed to the next page.

  17. If the Additional Configuration page appears, enter subclient, storage policy, and client group information, and then proceed to the next page.

  18. On the Install Status page, click Finish.
