Creating Dashboards for Log Monitoring

When you access the Log Monitoring application in the Web Console, the Default dashboard displays general log information. You can create your own dashboard to display specific log information. For example, you can create a dashboard to monitor only SQL database log events.

You can generate a new dashboard with the results obtained from a search, and display the results as charts or tables.

You can create a dashboard by using one of the following approaches:

  • Perform a search operation and save the search

You can perform a search to capture the log events that you want to display on the new dashboard. Use this approach if you do not have a saved search related to those log events.

  • Use an existing saved search

You can define the dashboard details on a existing saved search. Note that you cannot associate a saved search to more than one dashboard.

Procedure

  1. From the My Applications page in the Web Console, go to Monitoring > Log Monitoring.

  2. To create a new dashboard, choose one of the following approaches:

    • If you want to use a new search, see Searching Log Data in the Log Monitoring Application.

    • If you want to use a saved search, locate the search:

      1. At the top of the page, click Search.

      2. On the Search page, go to the Saved Search tab and click the saved search that you want to use.

Tip: If you do not see a list of searches, on the right side of the page, click Show History.

  3. If you created a new search, click the star button star_buttonto save it.

  4. On the Search page, at the upper right of the page, click Actions > Save to Dashboard.

  5. In the Edit Saved Search Criteria dialog box, specify the new dashboard details:

    1. Select the Save to Dashboard check box and choose the format in which you want to present the search results on the dashboard.

You can display the information in a chart (Graph option) or table format.

    2. In the Dashboard box, enter a name for the new dashboard.

    3. Click Save.

  6. To view your new dashboard, at the top of the page, click Dashboard, and then select your dashboard from the list.

The new dashboard appears. The chart or table displays the search results.

    Note

If you remove the search from the Saved Search tab, then the chart or table on the dashboard is also removed.
