Creating a Volume Filter for Amazon VM Groups

To exclude specific instance volumes from backup operations, you can create a volume filter.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Virtualization.

    The Virtual machines page appears.

  2. On the Hypervisors tab, click the hypervisor.

    The hypervisor page appears.

  3. Under VM groups, click the VM group to filter.

    The VM group page appears.

  4. In the Content section, click Manage.

The VM group content dialog box appears.

  5. On the Disk Filters tab, click Add disk filter.

The Add disk filter dialog box appears.

  6. In the Add disk filter dialog box, specify settings for the filter:

    1. From the Disk filter type list, choose one of the following criteria, and then enter a text string or pattern:

      • Volume device name/pattern: Enter the device name of the volume or a pattern using wildcards. (For example, to identify volume devices in any folder for which the volume device name begins with "xdv", enter /**/xdv* ).

      • Volume name/pattern: Enter the display name of the volume or a pattern using wildcards (For example, to identify volumes for which the volume name begins with "Data", enter Data*).

      • Volume tag: In the Name box, type the name of a volume or a pattern using the '*' wildcard to represent a string of characters (for example, name123 or name*). In the Value box, type the value for a volume or a pattern using the '*' wildcard to represent a string of characters (for example, value123 or value*). Both the Name and Value fields are used together to identify specific volumes.

      • Volume type: To filter the operating system volume, select root (the only value).

For an instance that is launched from AWS Marketplace, you cannot back up the root volume.

    2. Click OK.

  7. Click OK.
